In 1888 Hacı Abdullah Lokantası opened its doors in Karaköy at the request of Sultan Abdülhamit. This historical establishment moved to its current location in 1919 across from the Ağa Mosque. This restaurant is known for serving traditional dishes as well as precious food products from around Turkey. The menu consists of classics of old İstanbul cuisine which are prepared with the freshest seasonal ingredients. Among the favorites are the three types of stuffed vegetable dishes cooked with olive oil, (known as zeytinyağlı dolmalar in Turkish) and the laborious yet perfectly made keşkek (pounded wheat and lamb). Finally, the fruit compote comes highly recommended as a light yet delectable dessert which is made with 8 different seasonal fruits and gives off the scent of traditional hard candies known as akide şekeri.
